Karrawatta is a South Australian producer of small-batch, single-vineyard wines from three distinct regions: Adelaide Hills (home base at 164 Greenhills Road, Meadows), McLaren Vale (8.75 hectares), and Langhorne Creek. The winery is currently ACO Organic in Conversion — actively transitioning all three vineyards to certified organic status — and all vineyards carry accreditation from Sustainable Winegrowing Australia. The range focuses on Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Grenache, vinified with minimal intervention to let each site's character speak. The Karrawatta name itself carries history: it was reclaimed from a 19th-century family estate, after ancestor Joseph Gilbert lost a coin flip in 1847 and had to rename his property Pewsey Vale.
Karrawatta is officially Organic in Conversion through ACO (Australian Certified Organic), meaning the vineyards are actively transitioning to full organic certification. All three vineyards are also accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
Karrawatta operates three vineyards across Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek in South Australia — each region contributing different character to the single-vineyard range.
